Mentors and Tutors for newly arrived Refugees
We are seeking Mentors and Tutors with daytime volunteer availability for these individuals and families. Mentors will assist with orientation to U.S. culture, help with everyday needs and activities, employment advice and assistance, health and family matters. Tutors will assist adult learners to improve their English language speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
Volunteers should be available at least once a week for a minimum of four months. Agency staff will provide a client profile and needs assessment, and work hand-in-hand with the volunteer to provide services. Volunteers who are patient, reliable, caring, and have good organizational skills are sought.
For groups:
Help resettle a newly arriving Refugee family
We are seeking community, student, faith-based or other groups who are interested in volunteering to help with initial resettlement of a newly arriving refugee family. Needs range from greeting new arrivals at the airport to helping with set up and furnishing of a first apartment, along with ensuring that all basic family needs are met.
We are expecting a large number of refugee family arrivals during the next few months! Please contact us today to find out how you can help.
Hold a household or personal items drive for newly arriving Refugee families
We are seeking groups to hold donation drives to collect necessities for newly arriving refugees. Household and personal items are especially needed. Details on needs can be found on our Donations page. Your group can make a difference!

Refugee Resettlement Internship Opportunities:
Refugees have often lived for many years in refugee camps under life threatening conditions. They are passionate and enthusiastic about their new lives in America but need assistance as they work to become self sufficient here in Rhode Island. The following internships are available to be part of the Refugee Resettlement team, helping to make a difference in the lives of these individuals and families.
Reception & Placement and Case Management Assistants: Support Case Managers to assist clients with a variety of start-up activities for refugees, such as greeting refugees upon arrival, setting up apartments, helping individuals to apply for benefits, social security cards, heating assistance, enrolling children in school, home visits, and troubleshooting in various problem situations.
Medical Case Management Assistant/Community Health Worker: Support our Medical Caseworker in a variety of tasks related to health maintenance and support for refugees, including processing medical bills, making medical appointments, and advocating for clients. Drivers license and clean driving record required.
Refugee Childcare Assistants: Childcare Assistants will provide support in offering activities that will help refugee children to learn English, adapt to American culture and learn social behavior skills. Volunteers should be reliable, punctual, friendly, and culturally sensitive. Assistants are needed from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. Monday through Friday. A commitment to volunteer at least two days per week is preferred.
