Feinstein Center for Citizenship and Immigration
Volunteers/interns are an indispensable part of the Citizenship and Immigration department and contribute as a human capital asset. Our volunteers/interns gain knowledge and valuable skills working in our Citizenship and Immigration department. It is helpful for volunteers/interns to have bi/multi-lingual and cultural skills. Volunteers/interns should also have some interest in working in a non-profit/social service agency. Multicultural sensitivity and previous experience with individuals from diverse backgrounds preferred. There are many ways you can help support us by giving your time and talents.
Citizenship and Immigration Internships
Case Aid
Interns will have the opportunity to work one to one with individuals from countries around the world and will be kept up to date on relevant immigration issues. Alongside general administrative support, duties include, but are not limited to:
- Aid caseworkers in providing initial intake and first phase of assessment for all potential clients.
- Work with individuals, families and groups providing information, assessment, and support in areas relating to immigration and citizenship
- Assist refugee and asylum clients with application for permanent residency, including responding to questions on permanent residency application procedures.
- Support clients with citizenship applications and interview/exam preparation
- Translating documents needed for immigration purposes
- Take immigration photos for IIRI clients
- Keep professional and accurate documentation
Research
The intern will assist the Community Outreach Coordinator, Staff Attorney and Caseworkers by researching information (via internet and/or books, publications, news articles, etc.) related to immigration. The research conducted will be useful in producing publications and/or to support a client’s immigration case.
