Volunteers play an important role at the International Institute. There are many ways you or your group can help support us by giving your time and talents. Please review the listings below to find the best fit for your interests and follow the pathway to the appropriate volunteer opportunity. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. Time commitments vary according to opportunities. Please note: we are not able to offer opportunities for you to practice a foreign language. Sign up today to be a Volunteer Tax Greeter! IIRI is seeking volunteers who would like to help low income community members by being part of our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). Greeters are needed Wednesday evenings 5 pm to 9 pm and/or Saturday mornings 9 am to 1 pm beginning in mid January 2012 through mid April 2012. If you are interested in helping a diverse clientele, this is the volunteer opportunity for you! Bi-lingual Spanish/English speaking greeters are especially sought. Citizenship and Immigration: Multiple opportunities for volunteering and internships in our Citizenship and Immigrations Social Services Department. An interest in migration and immigration issues highly recommended. Bi-lingual skills highly valued – especially Spanish and Portuguese.

Refugee Resettlement: Group and Individual volunteers needed in our Refugee Resettlement Department for a variety of projects from mentoring new refugees, setting up a new home for a family, or hosting a donation drive for specific items needed for our newcomers. Internships also available. Self-starters and wiliness to commit to a minimum of 4 months highly recommended for most opportunities. Other Volunteer Options: Morning and Afternoon Receptionist We are seeking one or more dependable volunteers to greet clients and visitors, and to direct calls from the main IIRI telephone line, Monday through Friday 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. You may choose one or more days per week. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to brush up on work skills, while interacting with our diverse client base. Great resume builder!
