William Shuey, Executive Director of International Institute of Rhode Island and Board President of the International Charter School, has more than 25 years of experience working on behalf of immigrants and refugees. With an MA in Teaching from the Harvard Graduate School of Education (1971) and an AB in Literature from Claremont McKenna College (1968), he has extensive experience teaching English as a Second Language both in the U.S. and abroad. |

| Mr. Shuey also served in the Peace Corps in Turkey from 1969 - 1970, where he taught English. He is fluent in Spanish, has traveled extensively in Europe, Asia and Africa and has received a Rhode Island Foundation Non-Profit Fellowship. Committed to lifelong learning, he is a recent graduate of Leadership Rhode Island and has taken an intensive Strategic Planning for Non-Profits course at the Harvard Business School. Mr. Shuey serves on numerous boards and task forces at the local, state and national levels including the United Way of Rhode Island, the Gordon School, the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities, the Haffenreffer Museum and the Standing Committee of U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
