The Prince Charitable Trusts awards $14,000 grant to provide Immigration and Citizenship Information Sessions on Aquidneck Island.
This initiative will focus on educating and preparing Aquidneck Island’s immigrant communities and employers to meet the challenges of the legal immigration process and upcoming changes.
International Institute will conduct 3 Immigrant and Citizenship Information Sessions for Aquidneck Island residents and 1 for Aquidneck employers, November 2006 – June 2007. Sessions will provide information on the naturalization process, family reunification, and immigration employment law. The sessions will discuss benefits and challenges of citizenship and provide information on resources, including the importance of utilizing Accredited Agencies (International Institute, Catholic Diocese, Progreso Latino) or a trained immigration lawyer when seeking legal immigration advice/assistance.
In addition to a presentation followed by a question and answer session, Immigrant and Citizenship Information Sessions will offer direct legal services and referrals as appropriate. International Institute representatives will include experienced legal and outreach staff, and employment team members who provide job placement for refugees. On-site translation in appropriate languages will be provided by International Institute’s Interpreting and Translating Services.
