Income Tax Assistance Available at International Institute for the sixth Straight YeaR
On January 26, 2008 International Institute began offering the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) providing free income tax preparation for low and moderate income families. This valuable service directly benefits our clients and community members by helping to determine if they are eligible to receive the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Care, and other tax credits.

Who's Eligible?
Families with Incomes of Less than $40,000 annually.
How do I Make an Appointment?
Call IIRI at 401.461.5940 between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
What to Bring?
1. All W-2s and 1099s
2. Social Security Cards or ITIN documents for you and all dependents
3. Proof of Identification
4. 2006 tax returns, if available
5. Birthdates for you & your dependents
6. For direct deposit, bring a check or savings account number with the bank routing number.
In 2007, with support from a collaborative grant through John Hope Settlement Center and the United Way, Facilities Manager Maria Encarnacion coordinated the VITA program at IIRI, recruiting 10 volunteers, many of them bi-lingual, to the program. Volunteers received 30 hours of IRS training and become certified by the IRS to prepare tax returns. IIRI served 357 low income clients, saving them an estimated $75,000 in tax preparation fees. A total of $1.2 million in Earned Income tax credits were processed for these clients.
