August 6, 2009 2010 Census: It's in Our Hands
Tell-A-Friend:
| Update on the kunama community; home across lands to debut on television
Two years ago Gorashi and his wife Ayange were waiting in the Shimelba Refugee camp for a flicker of hope for themselves and their three children. The almost mythical letter from the U.N. granting the family the chance to join his brother in Providence, RI was the only possibility for a new start in life: away from the hopelessness of the refugee camp and sorrow of the loss of their homeland in Eretria. Share Gorashi and his family’s story as they leave the desperate and unchanging life in the camp to the unknowns of our modern American city by watching the documentary film, Home Across Lands. Home Across Lands will premiere on Rhode Island PBS on Saturday, August 15 at 7pm. PBC Channels are as follows: Digital Television: 36.1 To find out your local station please visit PBS's website. Today Gorashi works full-time at the Falvey Linen Company and fully supports his family. Ayange is working on her English skills and is interviewing for work. Their oldest children are beginning school in the Providence Public School. Even in these difficult times the American Dream is alive. |
