Call for Volunteers: Attorneys needed to help Iraqi refugees
We are seeking attorneys to help our Iraqi refugee clients on a pro-bono basis with applications and appeals related to Social Security disability benefits. Currently one case has been denied and there are 8 more cases pending. These Iraqis, who were the victims of torture, political and religious persecution in their country, are all legal residents here in Rhode Island. If you can help, please contact Baha Sadr (or 401-784-8611.)
IIRI Soccer Team 2nd place at 2009 EFA Cup!
IIRI’s team the International All-Stars came in second at the English For Action Cup at Merino Park on Saturday, May 9th. Made up of IIRI Education department students, Refugee Resettlement clients and IIRI staff -- the team was unstoppable with one tie, three wins and a loss in the final, after some of our players had to leave for their jobs. Teammates come from all over the globe: Somalia, Eritrea, Morocco, Cape Verde, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Bhutan.
Congratulations to the players and their coaches Ndumba Kamwanyah and Youssef Mejdar, and team managers Sophie Tan and Francesca Gould!
